Sonic Chung

Sonic Chung is a dedicated and versatile musician with a strong background in performance, music education and arrangement. Born in Hong Kong, he began piano studies at age six before moving to Australia in 2005. He continued his musical development in secondary school, learning flute in Year 7 under Elisabeth (Liz) Arnold and violin in Year 8 with Sarah Williams. He was also mentored by music teacher Andrew Van Gemert, whose guidance deeply influenced his passion for ensemble performance and education.

Throughout high school, Sonic performed in concert bands and orchestras, and tutored piano to younger students from 2011 to 2013. He completed his Bachelor of Music at JMC Academy in 2018 and, in 2024, undertook additional piano training with renowned Australian pianist Robert Zocchi. He is currently completing a Master of Education (Secondary), with a focus on integrating his broad musical experience into inclusive classroom practice. He is also studying violin with Margarita Agadzhanian at the Melbourne Violin Academy to further refine his technique and performance skills.

In 2025, Sonic began conducting studies under Marie-Louise Wright, former conductor of Eltham Orchestras, and has since taken over direction of the Beginner’s Strings and String Ensemble within the organisation.
